ORCHIDEE — home

Guides

Short, practical answers to the questions people ask before they give an orchid — and after they receive one.

How to choose the right orchid size

Stems, height and where it will stand — a short guide to choosing a Phalaenopsis that fits the space and the moment.

Start with where it will stand. A desk, a bedside table or a dining table suits a compact plant with one or two stems. A reception counter, a lobby or a shop entrance can carry a fuller arrangement with more stems.

The number of stems sets the scale. Each stem carries a row of blooms, so more stems make the arrangement fuller; the pot and the finish complete it.

Think about the moment. A single plant says enough for a personal gift. Openings and corporate occasions usually call for a larger arrangement that can be seen from across the room.

Not sure? Send us a photo of the space on Telegram and our florists will suggest a size.

Caring for a Phalaenopsis in Phnom Penh

Light, water, placement and what to do after the blooms — written for a home or office in this climate.

Light: bright, indirect light is ideal — near a window but out of direct sun, which scorches the leaves. An office with good daylight works well.

Water: about once a week, when the potting mix feels dry. Water at the base, let the extra drain away and never leave the pot standing in water. Keep water out of the centre of the leaves.

Air: Phnom Penh’s warmth suits Phalaenopsis. Keep the plant out of the direct flow of an air conditioner and away from hot afternoon sun.

After the blooms: the flowers last for weeks. When the last one falls, cut the stem back, keep the plant in good light and keep watering. A new stem can appear after a few months.

Choosing flowers for a grand opening

Orchids or stands, how many, and how to plan the delivery around the ceremony.

Orchids or stands. Orchid arrangements stay beautiful for weeks after the ceremony, in the reception or the owner’s office. Flower stands make a strong impression on the day and frame the entrance.

How many. It depends on the space and on who is sending them: one generous arrangement from a close partner often says more than several small ones. Tell us about the venue and we’ll suggest a size.

Timing. Tell us the date and the time of the ceremony when you order, so the flowers arrive beforehand. Larger arrangements need more preparation, so contact us as early as you can.
